Snake Rattle and Roll! – Trails from my bike

My best advice for biking the miles of trails in and around Columbus, New Mexico is: “If the stick is moving, IT’S NOT A STICK!”

Although our Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR) Start/Finish Line brings 100’s of bike-packers through our village throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons, I’m reaching out to the local biking enthusiasts to come down and take on our many one and two-track trails. Just make sure to use puncture proof tires!

So far this year I’ve ridden my bike 700+ miles over a 10 mile radius around Columbus, New Mexico in Luna County. I simply ride out my driveway at the Hole in the Wall Getaway, and decide which compass point I want to set my heading to.

The CDT/GDMBR Terminus Boundary Monument at the Columbus / Mexico border

West means straight up into the hills and dales. North means riding across the base of the Tres Hermanas mountains or up Hwy 11 towards Deming and choosing from the several turn-offs to explore. East means long rides heading towards Texas on Highway 9 or on the old road to El Paso and across the plains. South means 5 miles to the US/Mexico border wall and the GDMBR terminus.

I also do my best to photo and video document my rides for the my blog posts and the memories. Yesterday I was scrolling through all unused media files on my phone thinking I couldn’t possibly write articles about all of them.

So, I decided to share them as a collection. Hopefully you’ll get a taste of just some of the many flavors of Columbus from the seat of a bike.
