My name is Addison B. Bachman. I was ordained in 2008 and am Pastor of the Promised Land Community Church in Columbus, NM.
Following in the tradition set by the infamous horse trainer, Ivan “Cowboy Cupid” Thompson of the award winning documentary “Cowboy del Amor”, I’m bringing back SHOTGUN WEDDINGS’ to the Historic Village of Columbus, NM and the greater Luna County.
For nearly forty years Ivan was a matchmaker between American men and Mexican women. Taking men throughout northern Mexico and advertising matchmaking meetings using local radio commercials and newspaper ads.
For several decades my mother Martha Skinner (of Martha’s Place Hotel in Columbus), and stepfather Javier Lozanao (Retired Judge), acted as witnesses for Cowboy Cupid’s clients in a hurry to get hitched down at the border. I became Ivan’s business manager and website master for the last 10 years of his services.
I now operate The Hole in the Wall Getaway, a Bed and Breakfast in the village, and work continuously to promote business and tourism throughout Luna County.
And, I’m an ordained minister.
What is a Shotgun Wedding?
In years past, society wasn’t so polite to unwed pregnant women or their offspring. To avoid embarrassment and scorn, it was common for the “brides” father to escort the “groom” by shotgun to a quickly arraigned marriage. Of course, modern society now applauds women who become single mothers. But not all women are looking for such accolades.
Being a border town, we have another sort of urgency. American men and Mexican women needing a quick union down at the border.
That’s where I come in. Whether in a hurry or planning to get married, I’m available On Call 24/7 anywhere in Luna County for emergencies, or available otherwise.
