Camp Columbus is no joke, but this is:

“So, what seems to be the problem” asked the psychologist. “Well doc, I dream about Teepees and Wigwams every night. What’s does it mean?” After a quick think the doctor replied “Obviously your feeling two-tents”. Get it? Too tense? HAH!
The great thing about Camp Columbus is you can Glamp in your RV / Camper or Motorhome if you’d rather not stay two-tents!
Fact is, the Village of Columbus is infamous for a campground raid and fire in 1916 by Francisco “Pancho” Villa and his “Villaistas” on horseback in the early morning hours of March 9, 1916.
The “camp” was Camp Furlong, an army base. It’s said Pancho was looking to make good on bad deal he got buying shotty ammunitions previously. He came for the good stuff, resulting in the first actual 9/11 attack by a foreign army on the Continental U.S. See related post.

I find evidence of the soldiers stationed here all the time at my bed & breakfast and campsite. I now carry a mini metal detector with me whenever I dig around the campsite. I often find uniform buttons, buckles, horseshoes and more. But I digress. Back to camping….
Our Pancho Villa State Park here in Columbus has long been a favored campsite for snowbirds for our mild winter climate, and to bicyclists, and hikers as we are the official terminus for the 3000 mile long Continental Divide trail from here to Canada.
We also have a new campsite for those who prefer a more private camping experience and room to spread out. The Hole Campsite located at the top edge of the village boundaries offers just that with a dedicated site that includes covered parking (11′ max ht.), water, electricity, outdoor shower, covered living space w/firepit, dirt sport court for volley ball, tetherball, and horseshoes. Plus ample space for the biggest, longest, and tallest of RV’s and Motorhomes to park and set-up.
The location of The Hole Campsite and the adjacent Hole in the Wall Getaway B&B is ideal for those who love their riding toys too. Simply ride out the driveway and turn left to all the BLM land you can explore on your quads and trail bikes like I do. I even conduct bicycling tours from there.
So, get your camp on in Columbus, New Mexico. And you will leave enchanted with us!
