Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –The State of NM’s Health Care Authority is reminding SNAP beneficiaries of an important requirement change coming for 2026. Over 55,000 New Mexicans will need to work, volunteer or attend training for 80 hours a month to continue receiving SNAP benefits effective January 1st. In a news release, Niki Kozlowski, director of HCA’s Income Support Division said, “these are federal requirements, not state policy, but our job is to make sure New Mexicans don’t lose food benefits because they didn’t know about the changes.” The work rules apply to those between 18 and 64, who are mentally and physically able to work and not responsible for the care of a child under the age of 14. There are exceptions to the law and those with SNAP benefits can get more information from your local HCA office.
