Columbus, New Mexico in Luna County uniquely sits at the crossroads of the two most celebrated 3000+mile bike-packing odysseys across the length and breadth of the United States of America.

From March to October, Columbus hosts and serves bicyclists taking on the Southern Tier Coast-to-Coast biking route, and more famously the Southern Terminus of the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR).
I too caught the biking bug from hosting these bicycling trekkers at my Bed & Breakfast on the outskirts of the Village. From there I simply ride out my driveway and choose a compass point to begin a ride. Two years later, I have traversed some1200 miles of the trails that crisscross our desert plains and mountains. All within a ten mile radius from my house.
Let’s Start A Biking Club!
I’d love to host trail riding biking gatherings from my B&B. I have ample parking for dozens of vehicles, a large garage for staging and storage, two outdoor showers, shaded lounging areas, and even a small “bike shop” I built to maintain my own ride.
Are YOU Ready to Ride?
Trail riding across the desert means you must have puncture proofed tires, and water. I also carry and can share a repair kit, a medical emergency kit, a few survival supplies, extra parts, a spare innertube, protein snacks, and of course my cell phone, which gets full coverage everywhere I ride enabling me to watch the news, listen to Pandora, or call for help in an emergency.
Below is a little taste of a two hour 20 mile ride I make once or twice weekly. My eBike is capable of assisting me to hit nearly 30 mph across the fields and the hard packed trails I have mapped out throughout the area.
This route is mostly flat and what I would label easy to moderate. For an extreme adventure, I ride up and across the Tres Hermanas (seen above).
And I would sure love some company. BTW – I’m un-spoke’n for, ladies 😉
