Gus Steadman’s post on Facebook’s Great Divide Mountain Bike Route – Trail Info & Rider Stories points out the entire New Mexico Border is now owned and enforced by the U.S. Military.
Gus wrote the following warning: “Be careful on this year’s ride. Antelope Wells is now part of a restricted military installation. The administration has declared that anyone entering the area without permission is trespassing and may be arrested. There are armed US Military personnel patrolling. “…[US Army] Major Carmichael said that recreational users like hunters and hikers were no longer allowed, and humanitarian aid groups could not operate without permission.” find Gary’s post here
NO WORRIES – Riders and Hikers can have confidence of safety when starting or finishing their CDT / GDMBR at the official Columbus, New Mexico CDT / GDMBR Southern Terminus where a newly installed Boundary Marker has been installed.
In addition to safety, the Columbus, NM terminus has all the services needed for the arrival or departure of those who take on the Continental Divide. We look forward assisting all who do! (see services below)
